static landing page

ok, I am totally new to wp so be gentle. I'm not sure what exactly the "home" button takes me to on the completely DEFAULT agent theme but I assume it's a custom .php page and not the actual "blog" page that this whole thing is based on.

I would like a static landing page as described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

But I can't figure this out because if I follow those steps and create a "home" page and "blog" page, then my navbar has two "home" page options. confusing. I can appreciate that the "home" button on the navbar was more or less coded into the theme and not actually a page reference which was created through the wordpress page setup options but it's left me confused.

I seem to be having an immense amount of trouble getting this site together. I've stared at it literally for hours and closed my computer with no progress. I think it's that the theme is so far beyond what I'm used to (in a good way), that I don't know where to start.

Perhaps if I just laid down a simple idea of what I am doing with this site, someone here would have a suggestion for me.

I'm a wholesale real estate company. Not an agent. I intend to use my site to do three things in the following order of priority:

1. present myself to potential home sellers in a convincing way so they may sell their house to me like these fellows here http://www.webuyhomes2fix.com/

2. present myself to investors by showcasing properties which I have under contract and which are available(this is the reason I fell in love with this theme)

3. Give a good overview of who I am, what I do, and some good information regarding home selling, foreclosure, etc...

So, I think the agent theme was just right for me, and obviously needs a bit of tweaking but I keep feeling like I am lost and just can't seem to grasp how this needs to be organized. I'm not asking for someone to make a site for me as I am capable myself. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to the proper way to achieve my goals using this theme, wordpress and static pages.
