How do you add categories to small horizontal nav bar on Lifestyle theme

Need some help on how to add additional categories to small horizontal navigation bar on the Lifestyle theme; currently the only categories are (featured, uncategorized). Question is how do I add more?

Also how would you add the sub-categories to this nav bar?

Any help from anyone would be most appreciated.
