New Page Template will not appear

StudioPress -

I have created new Page Templates before. But for some reason this time, I can not get it to work. I am using the Page Template code at the top of my .php file:

<?php
/*
Template Name: menu
*/
?>

I have read on line to try activating another theme and then reactivating BlackCanvas, but that did not work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
