Replacing Property Search Box?

What would I have to do to replace the property search box on the homepage and then also on the rest of the pages with a widget? I would like to place a widget on the homepage where the property search box is so I can have some flexibility with what I put there. Can you tell me how to go about doing this or show me the code that I need to change to make it happen? Thanks for your help.
