Default Two Images Showing Up In Modified "Page_Blog.php" Template

I've made some extensive mods to the "Page_Blog.php" template in order to show blog post excerpts instead of the full blog posts (AgentPress default) in the start page of my blog.

I've added code to show a thumbnail (if an image exists in post) to the excerpt.

Unfortunately the default AgentPress template is pulling in the full size image from the blog post as well -- result: 1 thumbnail image and 1 full size image -- not good.

Does anyone have the code changes necessary to delete the extra image? My objective is to retain the thumbnail only.
