Possible to replace recent with next page?

Possible to replace recent with next page?

Is it possible to replace recent thumbs or modify it to pull thumbs from posts prior to specific post? If so does someone have a sample querry string?

IE: post written on the 17th displays thumbs written on the 16th or earlier, so that as a visitor browses through posts they can navigate back without having to return to the cat page (sort of like the previous link function)..
