Default Nice, clean, crisp masthead graphic

I could use some advice on working with the logo.png. The problem occurs when I create the logo with a transparent background. I cannot seem to get a clean edge on the text and/or graphic image. Almost always some ugly white showing.

My work-around has been to put the text/graphic against the same background as the masthead area. Which works okay but for the feint edge on the left and right sides of the graphic (screen capture attached)

What is the trick to adding a nice, clean image to the masthead?

Steve Mays

PS: Here's the url of the site in question (customized by the talented Rebecca Diamond)
