Want just block of text and videos on homepage- help

I just need large block of text and videos on the homepage. Something like a welcome page. But want the featured content gallery to stay.

To achieve this, I did the following

1. Removed the other homepage category blocks and left just the bottom block(if u know what I mean).
2. Removed the <ahref> in home.php so that it doesn't show the "post name" or "post link" on the homepage.

The single post has appeared. But now the problem I am facing is that, it still shows the category link(on the bar) on the home page. How can I make the category non displayable or atleast non clickable on the homepage.


I initially tried to copy the whole block of text in home.php. That would have solved all issues, but unfortunately my videos were not showing up and hence I had to adopt this method.


Please advice.
