Default I don't get it totally

I am a long time SP client. Built dozens of sites using your templates. Done a lot of custimizing and so on.

That said, I'm trying to get my head around this whole Genesis/Child theme and the Buddy Press integration concept.

Here's my need.

I want to try the Genesis framework and say the Mocha theme with typical pages and categories.

But I want to be able to have the Buddypress concept melded in for building a community site within the website. I get all that and believe that is you concept.

However when I go to the BuddyPress for Studiopress site, something is lost in the translation.

Question:
  1. Do I have to forfeit categories in lieu of "activity", "groups" and/or "blog" of the SP/BP packs [if I use the SP/BP pack for that child theme]?
Is there a demo site that demos the Genesis and a child theme with a BP pack installed to show off the whole shebang? Maybe there is but it's kind of convoluted finding such a site.

Look forward to hearing more.

A partner and I are now putting together a large community site and looking for the right platform that is extensible as the community grows.

Thanks
