Default Adjust width of body content

Hello All--I am wondering how hard it would be to decrease the width of the main body content on both blog posts and pages? This site is in development and behind a firewall so I can't show it to you.

The reason I want to decrease the width of the main body content area is because I wanted to place Facebook and Retweet sharing icons vertically down the right side of pages and blog posts but the content displays over the top of them.

If this is an easy thing, I'll try it. If not, I'll go back to displaying the sharing icons horizontally. Is this a change to the CSS? If you tell me what code you need to see, I can post it but the sharing icon settings are made in the ReTweet plugin settings options.

Thanks!
