Revolution Theme - anyone updated it to work with categories

Anyone out there already been down the road of updating the original Revolution Theme to use categories on the home page? Like the new Lifestyle theme, for example. If yes, care to share your modifications? I enabled the Revolution Theme and was then racking my brain trying to find out how I get my own content on the home page. Then I thought, let me check the options page. It was there I realized that it is static in content, where as the newer themes are dynamic.

I'm going to look at bringing over the dynamic capabilities of a theme like Lifestyle (including the Featured Content section) to the Revolution Theme. I like the look/feel of the Revolution Theme and also I'm deploying forums (using phpBB) at the same time, so I want a consistent look. I had been using Lifestyle but since there is no forum style using that theme, I was thinking I'd go with my other choice of Revolution.
