excerpt custom field not working

Hello,

I have a website reviewemr.com.

I wanted to add a custom excerpt in the category pages. So, I made the following changes as instructed in the tutorial:

1. Replaced

<?php the_content(__('Read more'));?><div style="clear:both;"></div>

with

<?php the_excerpt(); ?><div style="clear:both;"></div>

2. Added a custom field "excerpt" and entered the text I wanted to see as excerpt.

However, there is no change. I still see the same excerpt(the first x characters from the post).

Please help me.
