Default WordPress in Subdirectory

I have WordPress installed in a subdirectory. As is necessary, I have the index.php and .htaccess files in the root directory. No index.php or .htaccess files in the install directory. I did a little cleaning last night, but nothing that should have bothered the set up. But the problem now is that the site will load, and images are missing. Their plasceholders are present, and if you right click and select "View Image", it's there. But it's absent from the site. Each reload of the site might kidnap a different image.

Has anybody seen anything like this? I've been around the WordPress block a few times, but haven't seen anything like this before. Is this a cache thing or did I mess something up? Or, is it just happening on my machine?
