Problems with Content Gallery

I have tried all the instructions I've found and have several problems I cannot correct:

1. The text doesn't lay over the image. It pushes the image beneath it.
2. When I put up 2 posts, they display under one another and don't rotate between the 2 posts.

I have set all the settings according to the instructions and the manual, but still it will not work...

I also can't get the arrows that show forward and back on the left/right side of the images.
