Default Will changing the name of your site folder on your server screw up your site?

Ok, so I have a live site right now that isn't Wordpress and I began building my new wordpress site. In fact, I;m done and about to point my domain name to my wordpress site. BUT, the web address (when you're on the wordpress site), shows the whole path since I had to create a separate folder for it so as to not mess with the live site.

That being said, I'm pretty sure that if I change the names of the folders so they don't show up in the web address, it will screw up my whole wordpress site.

Does anyone have a quick fix for this? I don't want to have to go back and re-do the work I've done and tweak the content I've loaded just because of the names on the folders.

I'd like to shorten the paths/web address if I could. I will be moving the old site to inactive so the new wordpress site won't need folders.

Any suggestions would be great! Even if it's a suggestion on how to mask the web address so it doesn't show the path in the address. I think that would be the ideal situation.

Thanks in advance!!!
