Removing Enews/Updates and Category Box

I'm trying to get rid of the catergory section on the home page of Pro Media design and the eNews and Updates section.
I've found the code but left with a box still. How do I get rid of the box without screwing up the rest of the page.

I'd also like to change my permalinks but am having issues. I've changed permissions and changed lines in .htaccess file but can't get the permalinks to work.
