Default get_settings has been deprecated

While researching the problem I'm having with my Home page links which is in another thread here in this forum, I came across this on the Codex...
http://<br /> <a href="http://codex....t_settings</a>

Apparently the "get_settings" function has been deprecated. So does this mean that the code for this theme is not up-to-date with the latest Codex?
