Archive link (Extended front page)

Hello all, Happy New Year!

We recently transitioned over to our RMag 1.0 modified theme based site. The front page is setup more like a traditional blog in that posts are listed from top to bottom. Users are asking for a way to look up old stories. I've looked into the archive section and it seems like there is a way to do this (they are by month, which may work) but I am stumped as to where I should go next.

I have currently inserted the code ;

<?php posts_nav_link(' — ', __('&laquo; Previous Page'), __('Next Page &raquo;')); ?></p>

but now I need to craft the pages for the link to target. Any ideas?
