How to set the home page to blog posts and left and right sidebar

After much customization my client now decided she wants the traditional layout of posts in the middle and a left and right sidebar.
I added the left sidebar using the php given by Debra in here for blog page php, but when I select blog as the front page, I have no posts showing up.
When I select front page latest posts same problem.
