What would be cool .. (and would like to know if this can be done)..

1) ... if anything inserted into custom field "articleimg" will expand to 588 width and crops off the height at 200 (or whatever the setting is). .. as most images in the archives are at 400px or 200px wide

or

2) ... when there is no custom field .. a default image is there instead of the black box and barber-style waiting image shows up .. or maybe default to one associated with the specific category the post is in?

Are those possible at all with the lifestyle theme/ FCG plugin/ and/or with Wordpress 2.7.1?

What are you guys doing? Are you cropping each picture on every post just to fit that content area?
