How do I begin????

I'm a little new to wordpress, although with this theme I am having trouble from the start!

How do I actually upload photos? When I write a new post and include a photo in it, it simply appears in the comments section, and not in the left hand main window? Where am I going wrong?

Also, I am intending to use shockwave flash files instead of image files eventually. Is this possible with this theme?
