RSS - How to show 300 words of post content ?

I'm looking for solutions to the problem of posting partial content of a post into my RSS Feed and there is SO much content in the search engines around wordpress and rss I can't make sense of it.

Goal

My goal is to put about the first 300 words and images into the RSS Feed. Where a summary/excerpt feed put much less, I would like to achieve a hybrid where smaller posts go out complete, and longer posts are read on my website.

Knowns

I can switch my feed from Summary / Full. But the Summary using Excerpts isn't the right message. I'm looking to have the article display the first 300 words and then place a <more> to go to the full article.

I know there are hundreds of RSS plugins but many appear to be old and not compatible with WP3.0 or have been
