Exclude Category using Featured Posts Widget

Is it possible to exclude a category or categories using the Featured Posts Widget? My client would like to have a list of all recent blog posts in one sidebar, excluding those in the category "Recent Projects." And then they would like to have an area in the second sidebar to specifically display the Recent Projects.
