Default Why not Doc type Strict 1.0

Hi I found this site a week ago and have been back and forth a number of times. I really like the clean lines of the themes and for the price the support sounds well worth the few dollars.

I'm a novice to coding but I did finish a book from sitepoint.com and built a simple xhtml/css site hand coded (though really just following examples from the book ;) ) One of the things the book pushed was using a strict 1.0 doctype, using xhtml but I see that most if not all the themes use 1.0 Transitional doctype. Its not a deal breaker for me at all (since I don't even understand the major differences!!) its just that the little I have learned I don't want to complicate these 2 brain cells of mine

Could someone who understands these things help me here?

I've been impressed by the helpfulness of everyone on the forums, a good example to me. I look forward to hearing from you as you are able.

Take care,

George
