Exclude category from home page

My php isn't quite there to figure this out, so instead of banging my head, I'll just ask ;)

I just want to exclude a category of posts from the front page of the theme.

I've toyed with this

Code:

<?php if (in_category('3')) continue; ?>

Where 3 is the category you want to exclude, but that isn't what I need.

Can someone give me the magic code?
