Default turning navbar into a link

I am trying the link feature in the theme but instead of applying it to the sidebar I want to apply it to the navbar and topnav. So instead of being taken to a page within the blog the visitor will be taken to a linked page on another site.
Does anyone have ideas on how this can be done?
thank you
