Pro's and Con's of changing an archive page to a Blog page

I have a WP based site using the Genesis theme. However, I have (or would like to have) a blog page integrated. Apparently, what I have defined as a "Blog" page on the site, WP defines as an archive page.
1: Is it possible to set this one page (within the site) up as a proper Blog page (without removing posts or changing post dates or content etc)?
2: If it is possible to change an archive page to a blog page, what are the steps required to achieve this and what are the pro's and con's of doing this?
