Default Dynamic gallery for 2.0

The new auto image sizing to 590x250 is great (although sadly I had been using 590x240 for my gallery images so I just got done re-cropping them). I was using the DCG to show the images, and I see that the "native" support that caused it to automatically show up once installed and populated seems to be gone. That's ok by me, because although convenient, that kind of hardcoded support becomes useless if I were to decide on another solution for showing gallery images in a slider. This being my first implementation, though, I am not familiar enough with things yet to easily figure out how to proceed if I upgrade to 2.0.

Should I look at any other sliders that are popular, with configurable look and feel, well-supported, and would work well with the theme? I won't hold anyone accountable for your opinions here :). Will most sliders come configured as a widget that I will just drop into the Home area, or will I need to add some code or something? If the DCG is solid I can stick with that, but if there are other popular ones I could check out, that would be cool also (and I'm not just aiming that question at moderators :)...).

Here's the protoype site I have in 1.1.1 for reference:

...and here's my "test" site, which has 2.0 loaded:
