Advice: Add classifieds, directory and a forum?

I am using the lifestyle theme to develop a regional online magazine. It's a little upscale, so it has to appear accordingly. I have some experience with html, wordpress, css etc. but I'm definitely biting off a lot with this one; I'm trying to offer great content- as well as a classifieds section, a directory for relevant retail and service providers, and possibly a forum.

Add A Directory
Any ideas on adding a nice looking directory like this site- http://www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com/ has (on the upper-right side of the page). I'm wondering if this could be accomplished with a plugin.

Add Classifieds
Robb Report Collection http://www.robbreportcollection.com/ is powered by kaango http://robb.kaango.com/. If you know about kaango, is it for big time sites only? Alternatives for wordpress?

Add a Forum?

And: this regional magazine should be sectioned by city. As in enter the main page and go to your city page. If this isnt developed at the start, it will need to go this way eventually. It seems like it would be better to get all of the cities out there at once if possible... Tall order? Think big- like most of us here probably do :) Thanks Again!
