Do not know where to upload my plugin.

Sorry for asking a stupid question, i have done everything and the site is progressingly fine but i realise

if you using host gator ( i not sure about the rest ), where do u upload your theme or plugin ?

i usually upload under www/wp-content/ or public_html/wp-content ?
