Ease of Creating Social Network Site With Genesis

I'm looking at various platforms like Genesis and Ning for building a social network site and would like to know how easy this would be in Genesis. I love using Wordpress + Genesis but it looks like Ning out of the box can offer me all of the key features that I'd have to coble together in a different platform. Please let me know if it really would be easy to set up a membership site where members could upload content and communicate with each other.
