Default Custom Menu Question

In creating custom menus, is there any benefit to using Pages instead of Categories? I have created a custom menu that mirror each other, one utilizing Pages and the other Categories. But, I don't see any front-end difference.

At this time, the only benefit I would see is that I would not have to perform the extra steps of creating a Page and coping/pasting the shortcode into it.

Does SEO come into play with either option?

Chime in!
