[Lifestyle] Help with old version

Hi there, well, I'm using an old version of Lifestyle, no Genesis framework involved, just the old version of lifestile, according with my WP distribution is the version number 4 ( /themes/lifestyle_40 ) I went to the lifestyle theme options and tried to setup the home page featured top, left and bottom spots, but no matter what category I choose for each one, when I click on save settings everything is using blog as category and then, in the home page I have all the posts in all 3 spots, how can I have fully control? I even went to and edit the theme options page - theme-options.php - but still not working, not sure if this happened before, but any help will be highly appreciated.

P.S.: Also I'm attaching a screenshot with the 2 areas, front end and backend so people can take a look.
P.S.2.: Where can I find a good tutorial of the lifestyle version I'm using?
