Security Issue with wp-login.php?

Have to say I am feeling a little concerned this morning after looking at our website's traffic report and seeing that one particular IP address had about ten times the hits/pages than our usual visitors, even more than my IP address.

When I followed up with our webhost tech support, I was advised that the IP address had been trying to access the wp-login.php file exclusively. Apparently there were some real security issues with wp-login.php in older releases of WP. I was told that I shouldn't worry if WP is up-to-date.

This is the first website that I developed using WP 2.92 last year, does anyone know if this issue is a concern with WP 2.92?

Also, I have heard that IP addresses can be blocked from accessing a website, is this something that I can ask my webhost to do?

Any suggestions or support would be most appreciated!
