Video uploads not working

I have tried to get two different video plugins to work
e.g.
Wordpress Video Plugin
XVE Various Embed

I have followed the instructions and put the video site and video code in a text box on my home page (middle column 2 at bottom). In both cases the video doesn't appear but the code does like so:

[vimeo 24016824]

I have emailed wordpress over 3 weeks ago for help and have had no response. I wonder if you can suggest anything that will enable me to upload a video to my metric theme. I see other people have done it.
