Additional Template Capability for Posts

is there a way to create additional templates for posts? (example -- certain category requires a logo / disclaimer) -- i know this feature was available for pages within the Rev1 Magazine theme

it would be a great benefit to be able to create a few templates then have the option via dropdown within the write dashboard to select the req'd template -- in the Chrome theme it would also be beneficial for posts where one may not want to always use the large postimage or perhaps remove the comments option where applicable
