add new img class

I am adding some pics to a widget. Being unschooled in css I open a new post and add the images there, then copy the html and paste that into the widget.

so if I add an image to the post and choose align left it adds the alignleft class to the html. These pics though are 32x32 so the css margin is too much.

I want to give them their own class called social img so I added this to the css

.social img {
max-width: none;
margin: 0 0 0 0;
padding: 4px;
}

and then changed the html in the widget from alignleft to social img. But nothing changes....what am I missing?
