Article Directory

Can someone please send me in the right direction for creating an article directory with the Genesis themes?

I was looking at this plugin - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/.../installation/

But it requires to input code into the theme files (sidebar.php, etc) but my genesis theme doesn't have those files.

Please advise
