Featured Posts with Custom Permalinks?

I use the Steamline Childtheme for a website of mine. For my homepage I use the Featured Posts widget. When I use custom permalinks the posts that show up on the homepage, it redirects to a 404 page, but when I use the default permalinks, the posts go the the actual posts. Is there any way to allow for custom permalinks. I'd like to use /%category%/%postname%/ if possible.
