Sample Child Theme

Hi All,

I am new to StudioPress but am somewhat familiar with WP. I've created some of my own themes. I just downloaded the sample child theme and got this error message when trying to upload the zip via Insall Themes:

I deleted the child folder.

My understanding was this was free by maybe I need to pay and install a Genesis theme first? I was just testing it out first to try it before purchasing.
