VirtualResults showcase site

I wrote to Brian about the VirtualResults.net "showcase" site in Best of the Best and he replied that the site was based on the Metro theme. I just looked at the Metro theme, and I must say I don't see any family resemblance <grin>. It looks like so much code was changed that the (re)designer could have started with any of the themes here.

My question: was this really based on Metro and, if so, does anyone see a reason why the designer chose Metro over the others?

I've made significant changes to one of Brian's early themes so I know there's a fair amount of work and testing involved with hacking these -- but I'm not enough of an expert at WP to instantly see what changes are necessary to take Metro to the design at VirtualResults.net. That design, or a variation of it, would be perfect for a site I'm working on. Don't want to steal the whole design, just the basic layout.
