Post Previews

I'm not sure how to exactly word this, but here is what I am wanting to do and I don't think it's theme specific.

I subscribe to many RSS feeds and in my program I can click on each one and get a preview along with a photo associated with the post. There's always a "read more" link.

I also subscribe to mine, but I only see about a sentence worth of the post and no image. Is there a setting or code to be able to show more of a preview that might give a reader more reason to click the "read more" link?

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks so much! I have searched for settings but nothing jumps out at me.
