Default How do I create a Website then move it over and replace current website?

I am going to be helping out on a site redesign. I want to rebuild the current junky site (ASPX) with a Studio Press theme. I will probably build the site on a subdomain then move it over.

How wasy is this or is there a better way. I am worried about links, images, and anything else having a URL that will need to be changes when the move occurs.

I want the transition to be seemless. Turn one website off and turn the other one on.
