Default Effect of changing themes on image widths

A minor annoyance of mine when switching themes is the effect the switch has on post images. For instance, Theme A has a content area of 600px wide so you might use images measuring 580px wide in your posts. Then one day you switch to Theme B and find the sidebar has been knocked to the bottom of the page because your new theme has a content area of 550px wide.

I was studying the style sheet of the Lifestyle theme and noticed the following bit ...

Code:
img {
    max-width: 98%;
}
Very clever.
