Default Main differences/advantages between Blog and Archive page?

WordPress version: with WordPress 3.2.1.
Theme version: Theme Genesis
Site http://ecubation.com

I notice from the professional themes provided in the StudioPress Pro Plus package that some of the page templates have the options of "Blog page" and/or "Archive page". how are these different (apart from the obvious display differences)? What's the advantages to using one above the other?

Thanks.
