Default ExpressionEngine to WordPress & Genesis

We updated one of our oldest sites to WordPress and a custom Genesis theme this weekend. The site, Mac360, began life in 2004 on a beta version of ExpressionEngine. 3,000 posts later, it was all transferred to WordPress in about a minute.

The conversion process took a few days, though. First, we had to export some content from EE to WP, the customize the Genesis child theme. The site's layout and color scheme are familiar to the old EE layout, but fresh, clean, faster, less cluttered, easier to navigate in WP.

Once the final layout was complete, we tested on MAMP for a day, built a 301 redirect file, then uploaded the new WP database to the site, then zipped up and uploaded the WP site. Unzipping the WP site made it go live in an instant (overwriting the EE index.php file, the .htaccess file).

That was it. Not painless, but not brain science or rocket surgery, either.
