Question on adding a 940px at the bottom

May i know if i want to create let say a rectangular with width 940px post at the most bottom of the page

instead of using float; left;

what can i use ? i have no idea of the script so i i tried "sink; left;". I dont wan it to float. i wan it to be at the most bottom.

what does padding means ? what does it do ?

margin ?

just a basic explanation would be fine.

In the Style.css, i change and add a few. does the location of the added script influence the result ? because i added the script at the most bottom of the page rather than at relevant location as the style script are well define into Header, footer, comment etc
