WordPress version: with WordPress 3.2.1.
Theme version: Theme Genesis Site http://ecubation.com OK, this is an area that can be quite confusing if not clarified correctly so this is my current understanding (correct me if I'm wrong): Links (Outbound): Can produce Pingbacks if used properly Backlinks/Linkbacks (Inbound): SERP's see these as backlinks and if the backlink comes from another blog, it usually will have pinged my blog. If the ping pointed to a specific article, my blog will normally have produced a pingback in the comment section. But where in the comment section i.e. How is it possible to organise/sort these and maybe have them listed at the bottom, after all the comments? Pingbacks: When I post an article with even one link in that article, the CMS software will ping that link ....but is this automated or does something need to be setup? If that link happens to point to a specific page on a blog, and the blog is set up to accept pings (as some aren’t), a pingback will appear in the comments section of that blog. If the link doesn’t point to a specific page, no pingback can occur. I know I can still see if the ping went through to the blog by looking at the “blog reactions” on Technorati (but how can I integrate that into my Blog post at a later date?). I do want to track this information for each of my own blogs so I am a member of Technorati and have claimed my blog there. Trackbacks: Aren't these practically the same as a pingback with the only difference being that my blog doesn’t have to link to the other blog in the article itself. I know that there’s usually a separate spot in the software designed specifically for sending pings to trackback URLs. If the ping goes to a specific page on the other blog, a trackback will appear in the comments section of that block - correct? Are all these assumptions correct: * The WordPress blog software is set up to do all these things the right way, in its default configuration. * It's not possible to increase pingbacks without linking out to other blogs. When I link out to other blogs, whether the links produce pingbacks or not, it gets the attention of the owners of the other blogs (and their readers if there happens to be a pingback there). The owners and the readers will sometimes pay a visit to my blog. * Is it advisable to use trackbacks i.e. can they do some good for your blog (as I don't see how they help the blogs I send them to)? * If you link to an article (deep linking) on a blog that has the nofollow tag disabled, the pingback becomes a backlink for me (assuming I'm targeting a blog where the link is relevant to my article). - correct? I realise that linking, specifically targeted linking, produces traffic since linking produces backlinks but it is a big topic so would appreciate all advice. |
