Build an Intranet with Wordpress

Hi,

I'm dealing with the possibility of building an Intranet for one of my customers, and I'm wondering if there's a way to do it with Wordpress. This are the specs:

• Create groups of people
• Create private content for each group
• Grant a user privileges for one or more groups
• Be able to share files within a group
• The users has to have a private area where an admin can send private messages

My customer is a language teaching center and wants to build the intranet for their students. That is, create a group for each classroom and then share documents and multimedia stuff within each group. A user can only check the content within the groups they belong to.

Any idea? I've browsed a lot with very little success. Right now I'm dealing with the possibility of using buddy press as an intranet. What do you think about?
