I have my hosting account & have purchased the Pro Plus Pack & installed Genesis & the Landscape child theme. I decided on Studiopress Genesis after a lot of research & was impressed with everything I found out.
I am totally new to setting up my first blog, & don't know a thing about PHP, HTML, CSS, etc., and don't have any desire to get that "techy" & try to learn all that stuff. After installing Genesis & the child theme, I came back to this site, and have been looking through every tutorial and training link I could find. I can't find any video tutorials at all, unless I'm missing something, and can't find any comprehensive "new user" type orientation or tutorials on all the "settings" for Genesis or the child themes. Every tutorial I have found is "Greek" to me, and seems to only be going over tech terms, coding, etc., and is very brief or "sketchy". I can't find anything that is "comprehensive" for newbies. How is a "newbie" supposed to know what all those "settings" are for, what they mean, and what "effect" they have? I got the impression from the "promotional" information & website that Studiopress Genesis & child themes were suitable for "inexperienced" to experts, but it seems to me that everything is geared only for "expert" web designers & "expert" coders. Would it be possible for Studiopress to use video tutorials covering all the basics for setting up, tweaking, & using Genesis & basics on the child themes & how to get different looks? Also, I would suggest that the "Showcase" be divided into themes that people have done "out of the box" without having to be expert coders & web designers, and that haven't been "outsourced" to expert web designers or coders. These would show what an average person or "newbie" could do with the existing child themes, out-of-the-box. Keep these separate from all the customized themes done by experts I felt a little misled after looking through the Showcase before I bought, and then realized I'd have to pay a "lot" to get these type of looks, or become an "expert" on my own, after I had bought. I think it would be a "customer service" to be more clear, up front. I don't have the money to hire a "designer", and seem unable to use what I've bought. Bottm line: 1. Video tutorials for "newbies" 2. Separate "expertly customized" themes from basic out-of-the-box possibilities. Thanks in advance for your opnions. Dennis |
